With a presentation followed by Q&A, the lecture aims to discuss the various roles of the UNIDROIT Principles in relation to the law governing international contracts. The seminar will explore this question from a theoretical and practical perspective.

Lauro Gama is Professor of Private International Law and Arbitration at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. He also has extensive experience as counsel and arbitrator in domestic and international commercial disputes. He holds a law degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1987), a Master’s Degree in International Relations from PUC-Rio (1992) and in Comparative Law from McGill University (1999) and a Doctoral Degree in International Law from the University of São Paulo (2004). In addition, Lauro Gama is currently a member of the CISG Advisory Council and of the ICC Court of International Arbitration. He is the former President of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (2013-2015), and also served on the working groups of the UNIDROIT Principles (3rd edition, 2010) and the Hague Principles (2010-2015).
